In the background, and barely panoptic against the brown and gray-haired landscape, is a chain link get by separating the cemetery from a dusty, empty road. Beyond the road a glimpse of the tatterdemalion ASARCO Smelter Works, an ore refinery and at one time the economic center of Smeltertown. This photograph and its title hint to Smeltertowns history. Smeltertown was a border town located in Texas, northwesterly of El Paso.
